The Journey To Perfection

Every wedding dress by Elizabeth Malcolm is designed and manufactured in our Derbyshire studio. Therefore this guarantees the highest quality and perfect fit.

Our ready-to-wear wedding dress collection offers a wide selection of gowns to choose from. We are also able to tailor any one of our designs to your particular taste. However, if you require even more individuality we can create a completely bespoke wedding dress from your ideas and preferred fabrics.

Let’s Start At The Very Beginning, The First Consultation…

Come in and be welcomed with a perfect cup of Yorkshire tea. Have a look through our collection of wedding dresses, all created out of the most divine fabrics and embellishments ready for you to try on and discover.

We will take our time to find out what is important to you. What it is you actually want to wear on one of the biggest days of your life. You don’t have to wear a big frilly dress if you don’t want to, we will not push you into anything you feel uncomfortable in. You are in control and with our 10 years of experience of silhouette and fit, we can guide your ideas into reality.

As you start to try on our designs you may find that you want to add a sleeve, a lace overlay or you may even prefer the bodice on one dress and a skirt of another. Of course, this is absolutely fine. Encouraged even as this means that the gown is even more personal, even more special to you.

How We Create The Magic

Once you have chosen your perfect wedding dress the real magic begins. We will take your measurements 5 months before the date of your wedding. From these measurements, a paper pattern is drafted and a toile (practice dress) is created out of practice lining material.

The First Fitting

At the first fitting, you will try on the toile. This is the practice dress so we can check the fit and see if anything needs changing. You could realise that the neckline is too low or the train is not long enough.  You may prefer the back to be lower or you might decide that you would like the skirt slightly shorter. All of this we will happily do, we’ll just mark it on your toile and then transfer these alterations onto your next toile.

The Second Fitting

At your second fitting, the first alterations will have been made and if we are both absolutely happy that everything is perfect the next fitting will be in your actual fabric. If we still need to tweak anything we will have another toile fitting, just so that the dress is perfect. A third fitting will happen if changes have been made to the style, or if weight loss was happening.

The Fabric Fitting

The fabric fitting is a very exciting one as this will be the first time you will see your dress made in its beautiful fabric. At this appointment, it is really important for you to bring along your wedding shoes and underwear you are planning on wearing on the big day. Your hem will be cut to length and you will practice sashaying around to make sure you can easily glide. We also mark where the back seam needs to close if you are having a zip back or working buttons.

The Final Appointment

At the final appointment, your wedding dress will be complete and ready for you to take home. We will get you to try it on again, just to make sure that it is perfect for you.  Plus it’s nice to get another few swishes from you! Please note that if the bodice needs taking in or out at this appointment the alterations will be charged for.

We will pack your beautiful dress in a hanging bag along with advice on how to care for your dress.  We’ll then give you a tight squeeze and wish you the best for your wonderful wedding day!
