Ally and Tom

Ally Gunton (Bateman) Married Tom Gunton in Norfolk 8th June 2015

Ally came to me in a bit of a panic needing a second dress for her wedding in a few days time! She had decided she wanted something fun and something she could dance in for the reception. They were having a big band and the wedding dress she was getting married in, although beautiful and perfect for the day, restricted her movements and she wouldn’t have been able to dance the night away. She was open to ideas but had one stipulation and that was she wanted a massive bow (the bigger the better in my book!)

I suggested that because we didn’t have a lot of time, creating a gown from scratch wouldn’t have been possible, however we could adapt one of the sample dresses to suit her needs.

Ally was instantly drawn to Fleur. A plain silk dupion, tea length gown with an optionalFleur wedding dress by Elizabeth Malcolm chiffon overlay. She absolutely loved the dress on its own, but wanted something lacy over the top. Showing her the laces I had in the boutique, she fell in love with a lovely Chantilly style one with tiny sparkly beads. I started pinning the lace to the dress, creating different necklines and sleeves until we came across a style that she felt was perfect. The neckline was high and the scallop edging rested across her collar bone and using the scallop again over her shoulder and down to her waist a stunning open sleeve was created.

With a sash around the waist which tied at the back in a bow we felt that the edge between the skirt and the sash was too harsh and looked incomplete, so adding more scallop along the waist line, peeping out from the bottom of the sash, bought the top of the dress and the skirt together nicely.

It’s hard to choose a favourite wedding dress from the ones we have created, as each one is so very different and unique it’s difficult to compare them. However, that being said I absolutely loved reworking a sample to make a completely different dress, and the fact that Ally was so fun to work with really helped. She came up with ideas herself, and put her own style on one of my dresses. What a wonderful bride to work with. xXx
